Several specimens of bean weevils from a batch of seeds carried by travelers from Brazil were intercepted by Nanjing Lukou Airport Customs and identified in the laboratory of Nanjing Customs. Using morphological and molecular methods, the insect was identified as Pachymerus nucleorum (Coleoptera:Chrysomelidae). This is the first report of occurrence of the species in China. P. nucleorum generally spreads over long distances with seedlings. The species poses a substantial threat to China's agricultural and forestry sectors. The quarantine inspection of imported seedlings at ports should be made aware of this potential threat.
