Abstract:[Background] Fusarium is a worldwide banana devastating pathogenic fungus. Since there is no effective drug to control it, screening of resistant banana varieties is the best prevention method.[Method] Using eighteen banana germplasms were tested for resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense race 4 by root injury inoculation of seedlings grown as tissue culture.[Result] The results showed that 2 of the 18 germplasms were highly resistant, 2 were resistant, 3 moderately resistant, 7 susceptible, and 4 highly susceptible.[Conclusion and significence] Resistance levels to F. oxysporum cubense race 4 greatly varied among these banana germplasms. The seven resistant germplasms can potentially be used for cultivation of banana resistant varieties.
